Connecting with God

Week Beginning 18th January

Tuesday 19th January

WELCOME: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
This week our theme is Being a Disciple.

WORD: The Bible says “Do not be afraid” 365 times. It’s a reminder that with Jesus there is no need to worry or be anxious. We need to hear that at the moment with so much going on in our world because of the Coronavirus. As a follower of Jesus, St Francis de Sales knew this and experienced this and wanted others to know and experience this too. Let us read carefully this reflection he wrote and take it to heart today.
"Do not look forward to what may happen tomorrow; the same everlasting Father who cares for you today will take care of you tomorrow and every day. Either He will shield you from suffering, or He will give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace, then, put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations, and say continually: 'The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart has trusted in Him and I am helped. He is not only with me but in me and I in Him.'"

WORSHIP (student prayer): Dear God, I pray that every faithful disciple can have courage to spread the message that God loves us all and that we should love our neighbours. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

WITNESS: Think of someone you know who is anxious. Take a moment of silence to think about how you can help them this week?

Monday 18th January

WELCOME: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
This week our theme is ‘Being a Disciple.’

WORD: Let us listen to St Mark’s account of how Jesus called the first disciples to follow Him.
A Reading from the Gospel according to Mark
Glory to you O Lord.
As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him. When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

WORSHIP (prayer): Dear Lord, we pray for all the people who believe in you and who follow in your footsteps, especially those here at St Thomas Aquinas. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

WITNESS: Today when you see somebody walk past your house or if you pass someone when you’re out exercising or at the shop. Say a prayer in your mind for that person. It can be as simple as “Jesus, help them today!”
