Bronze Duke of Edinbugh Earlswood Expedition - May 2014
Whilst most were enjoying the sunshine on the bank holiday weekend, a committed group of 36 students descended on Earlswood for their practice expedition for the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Over the course of the weekend, students put into practice their camp-craft and navigational skills to hike around a 24km route. All students responded exceptionally well to the challenges they faced and, in the face of adversity, their teamwork skills shone through. It is at these times when we see our students at their best. Although the majority of students demonstrated excellent cooking and camp-craft skills, it is clear that there is still room for improvement with their navigation. All students are now preparing for their qualification expedition in June.
Thank you to the staff who gave up their time to support the students on the expedition: Miss Burden, Mrs Burley, Miss Clarke, Mrs Devlin (who returned early from maternity leave just for DofE), Mr Flood, Mr Howes, Miss McLeod and Mrs Taylor. But a particular thank you to Miss Browne and Mr James for leading the expedition.
