DofE Bronze Expedition

Over the weekend, 25 Year 9 students embarked on their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Expedition. The four teams completed a self-sufficient, two-day, one-night walking expedition, covering almost 30 km. Despite a hot start on Friday and some early navigation errors, they persevered throughout the day, supporting one another along the way.

In the evening, they pitched their tents, cooked their meals, and settled in for the night. Awoken by early light and the sound of rain lashing against the canvas, participants set out on day two clad in their waterproofs. Their teamwork, resilience, compassion, and integrity were a shining example of what it means to be a committed learner and exceptional member of the Aquinas community.

Each of them should be very proud of what they have achieved. Eleven of the 25 students have now completed their award, having also dedicated many months to volunteering, developing new skills, and engaging in physical activity. It was a privilege to present these students with their certificates and badges during this week’s assembly, recognising their dedication.

We are very keen to see the remaining 14 students complete their other sections, so that even more members of our community can proudly wear their badges on their uniform.

Planning is now underway for the launch of the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award—watch this space for next year. Now we look ahead to the Year 10 cohort, who will undertake their expedition next weekend.
