AIMS
French A Level provides an engaging and exciting opportunity for students to build on their previous study of French. Students will be able to develop their linguistic knowledge and cultural understanding of the countries where French is spoken. An opportunity to study literature and film will allow students to increase their cultural awareness as part of an integrated approach to language learning. A strong focus is placed on building students' confidence and fluency in spoken
French using relevant and topical themes.
COURSE SUMMARY
Grammar is taught both discretely and through our thematic work. There are 4 themes:

Changes in French society (changes in family life, education and work)
▶
Artistic and political culture in French-speaking countries (music, traditions and media)
▶
Immigration and French multicultural society (the positive impact and challenges of immigration and the rise of the National Front)
▶
The occupation of France in WW2 and the resistance movement
We study one film in Year 12 and one literary text in Year 13.
ASSESSMENT SUMMARY
Paper 1: Listening, Reading and Translation 40%
Paper 2: Writing about a Film and a Literary Text 30%
Paper 3: Speaking 30%
COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You should have achieved an Average Point Score across all your GCSE subjects of 5+ and a grade ‘7’ in French.
