'Born for This' and Easter Mass Hymns

At this time last year, we wrote in the Student Bulletin how students should have been in the final stages of rehearsals for our presentation of ‘Born For This’. It continues to feel very unusual to have not been rehearsing for one of the most important weeks in the spiritual calendar.

We still wanted music to be a part of the Easter Mass which was live streamed from St. Brigid’s on Tuesday. So instead of our School Choir performing in Mass, we decided to record one of the most beautiful songs from ‘Born for This’ and two hymns, ‘Servant King’ and ‘Bread of Life’.

‘Born For This’ is a very moving and powerful interpretation of the Stations of the Cross. The music is written by Joanne Boyce, Chris Rolinson and Mike Stanley, accompanied by dramatic prose from Jude Martin.

In Station Four, Jesus meets his mother. The soldiers have dragged Jesus to his feet and Mary is there to help and comfort him. The song, ‘Born For This’ is one of the most beautiful songs which is performed by one of our older students, Rumbi. She has a wonderful talent and her performance conveys the pain and sorrow of Jesus’ mother. It is truly outstanding! We cannot thank you enough, Rumbi, for sharing your talent and giving your time so willingly to rehearse after school.

Thank you to the small group of students who feature in the recordings of the hymns: Rumbi, Samia, Aidan, George and Tino and, to Macy who read beautifully in Mass. Thank you to Miss Young, who joined our school in January, for her beautiful flute playing and singing on both hymns.

I would especially like to thank Mr Tibbits for creating the three beautiful recordings in less than a week. He has created the arrangements of ‘Servant King’ and ‘Bread of Life’. He has also performed and recorded the instrumental parts and edited the vocal parts.

Finally thank you to Joanne Boyce, Chris Rolinson and Mike Stanley for allowing our school to perform ‘Born For This’ and for providing the backing track on this recording.
